Is it possible to store Outlook's files such as email and contact information on any hard drive?

For example, I want to use a small system drive (6 GB) and I have a secondary 40 GB drive for storage. I have enough emails/contacts to severely clog up the 6 Gigger, so can I set Outlook to store those files on my large drive, or must Outlook be installed on that large drive? (IE: does Outlook just store files in its base folder)

I need a quickish answer. Many thanks

All you need to do is move your personal folder (.pst) to your 40 gig. COPY it to where you want it to reside and then go to Start-Settings-Control Panel-Mail and redirect Outlook to the copied file at the new location for the appropriate profile. Once you verify that everything is successful you can delete the original.

What is the exact process for redirecting Outlook to the file? In the Mail window I can see 'Import'. Is that it? The 'Import' function looks for .iaf files - not .pst files, hence my question...

Perhaps I've got it totally wrong...

In the mail control you should see a "MS Exchange Settings Properties" window. There is a services tab. Click on Personal Folders, and then select properties. Now you should see the path to where the .pst file is. Although on my system, it won't allow me to change it. Maybe SharkB8 could shed some light here...

Sorry for the response delay. What you will have to do is actually delete your personal folder (.pst) within your Outlook profile. Then you will need to use the "Add" option to recreate a personal folder and direct the path to the directory to where you copied your .pst file to PRIOR to deleting it. Instead of creating a new .pst file it will use the existing one that you copied and set the new path to. Pakaderm is right, once you create a personal folder Outlook will not let you redirect the path.
