i have a user who is having a problem where outlook is not keeping there custom views when they switch folder. for example if i recreate the view and then user switches to their inbox from the public folder and then goes back to the public folder the view disappears and i have to recreate it again. i have read that the /cleanviews switch can help this.

The only thing that concerns me is that we are using shared views on the public folders that everyone in her department needs. the whole department is set at owners of the folder, but she is not the original creator of the view. if i ran the clean views switch would it mess up those views for everyone or would it just clean them up for her and then pull them down fresh from the server again?

If i cannot do that does anyone have any other ideas on how to fix the problem. Thank you for your help.

Also, views of items in public folders are affected by /CLEANVIEWS, so if public folder items don't seem to be showing up properly, this may be one way to address the issue.

If you're considering using /cleanviews to remove a corrupted view from a mailbox or folder, consider using the mdbvu32.exe tool from the Exchange Server CD-ROM or the OutlookSpy tool from http://www.dimastr.com instead. Both these tools let you remove one view without affecting other custom views; /cleanviews removes all views. "Outlook Tips & Techniques," June 2000, InstantDoc ID 8650, explains where Outlook stores its custom views.
