Outlook tasks wont delete

My company switched from pop3 to Imap and in the conversion of my pst file I am stuck with a bunch of old, previously cleared tasks that came back that I cant delete. Ive tried hitting delete but I see no errors but they dont go away and I have tried marking them as complete but that didnt help either. Does anybody have any idea how to get rid of these tasks?
