Outlook Rules will only be run on items in "mail folders"

I can't run rules on my Inbox...

Googling was no help... Anyone have this message pop up when trying to run rules in outlook? There are several topics related to this on the net - none had a solution...

Does not seem to be confined to Outlook 2013, but that is what I have...

Has anyone encountered this and have a workaround?

Perhaps not the quickest solution, but I wonder if you set up a new Outlook profile, import your old Outlook data into it and set up your accounts whether the problem will disappear then.

In your shoes, if I wanted to try this solution, I would try importing say one folder and do a very quick Outlook setup just to test first.

All of my rules apply to incoming mail, so I can't say that I have ever encountered this.

Can you tell us what rule you are having issue with?

Issue was that any/all rules could not be run on my INBOX... As mikey suggested I ended up recreating the profile via importing the data and I got the rules functionality back... In general, I'd say that Outlook 2013 is really buggy...

Glad to hear that worked. Yeah, 2013 was quite buggy for me upon first install. Once I got those all worked out it has been doing pretty well.
