outlook not closing...why?

I use outlook 2000 on my laptop and desktop. only my laptop (Dell Inspiron 5000e) has this problem where when I close it's window it is still running in the background. (if I ctrl-alt-del it's listed) sometimes it's usefull, as it will still receive e-mail. but when I close it down I want it gone, I want my ram back! it doesn't do this that I have noticed on my desktop.
Has anyone had this happen to them?

This has happened to me on my older P3 desktop system (runing Win98 first edition). As far as I can tell, it only happens once for every 13.463 times I open Outlook 2000. 🙂

Occasionally, this occurs because Outlook gets trapped when doing tasks like auto-archiving or emptying out deleted items. I've found that killing the Outlook process or killing it from task manager doesn't have any harmful side effects.
