Outlook express6 to Windows Mail or Outlook 2007

Hi!

I have a ton of messages under my XP Outlook Express account.

Bought a new PC with Windows Vista Home Premium and NEED TO import my messages from the XP machine to the new Machine.

I pulled the XP drive out and make it an external HD and have it plugged to the Vista PC.

Have tried the easy transfer wizard but I don't see an option to read from my USB drive or to just import the email settings / messages

I also tried copying the DBX files from the XP account and to import them using the Vista Windows Mail, but when I click browse, I cannot see any DBX files or anything for that matter.

Can someone help me please!

TIA!

To import from an old Outlook Express message store into the Vista Windows Mail message store, do the following:
1. Create a new directory in your Documents folder, such as Documents\OldEmail.
2. Copy ALL of the dbx files from your old Outlook Express Identity folder into this directory.
3. Select all ofl the dbx files. Right click on the files and and choose Properties and make sure that "Read Only"attribute is unchecked.
4. In Vista Windows Mail go to \File\Import Messages and choose Outlook Express 6 format and choose to import from a directory.
5. Browse to the new folder where you put the old dbx files.
6. Finish the Import.

I tried that several times, but when I browse to the OLDmail directory, I am not able to see any of the DBX files.

I searched online and many users have experienced the same "empty folder" problem.

I made sure that the read only attribute is unchecked.

The folders.dbx file is present

The folder containing the DBX files was created under my own profile, documents, oldmail.

Thanks!

Are .DBX files hidden or System files? Possibly.
You might need to make them visible by changing the "Folder Options" in Explorer.
