Outlook Express slow to start

Hi,

I did a search to try to find a way to improve my situation but didn't find anything.

I disabled MSN Messenger using the PreventRun and PreventAutoRun registry keys. But it seems this method slows the initiating process of Outlook Express.

It might take a whole 15 seconds for OE to start with Messenger disabled while it takes a second or two when it's (Messenger) enabled.

Anyone knows of to resolve this issue?

Thanks for any help!

What do you care? Just configure it not to connect, and it will quietly sit there. Other than that, my Outlook works fine..

I uninstalled MSN Messenger by entering:

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

into the run dialog.

I do care about it sitting there. I'm from that kind of maniac that don't want any program running that is not meant to be used.

igowerf : I'll try this.

Thanks all.

This is the easiest way to disable messenger, and it OLEXP will not be slowed down:

There is a folder called 'Messenger' in the 'Program Files' folder. Rename it to 'MessengerOff.'

BAM!

It works like a charm

i didnt uninstall it or anything. i just went to the messenger folder and deleted all the contents and outlook runs fine. 🙂 i hate that stupid crap where i poped up.

Thank you timswim78, it's indeed working like a charm!

Glad it worked for you, too🙂 Most of the solutions to disable messenger seem so complicated.
