OE wont load, shows MSIMN loading failure-causing invalid page fault in msoe.dll

Tried to uninstall, reinstall but no good. IE works fine though.

Suspect its a problem file or corruption there? Can I just copy & paste the file? Any other way to troubleshoot or repair?

you can reinstall it. go to start->settings->control panel -> add/remove programs and got to the "windows setup" tab, take the check out, restart, and do the same thing, putting the check back in, but I would also recommend running system file checker, and replacing wsock32.dll, winsock.dll, and rasapi.dll. this helps resolve socket probs, sometimes.

Now I'm getting iexplore fault windows too and it wont shut down normally so I think I'll save time and just reinstall the whole w98se.

Cannot run or reinstall outlook express!
I put a modem in my second box as vid conflicts on the other one I have to sort out.

IE runs fine but I get MSIMN fails to load when trying to load OE. I uninstalled it through add/remove programs and reinstalled but get the same error. I deleted the OE files in C and reinstalled, rebooted but still getting msimn fail to load--fault in msoe.dll

Anyone help on this one.

Try goin' to the System Information(Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Information) and in the Tools at the top use the IE repair tool.

I dont see an IE repair tool in the SI tools section. IE is running just fine, OExpress is not. System File Checker reports no problems either.

What is MSIMN? Maybe I can replace the file(s)

OE is part of IE and you must be usin' a lower version than 5.1 as the repair should have been there. Maybe you should go to the MS site and download IE 5.5 sp1 or 2 (can't remember the lastest) as that should fix it and give you the repair function as well.

If you want to reformat, make sure you back every thing up.

Your Outlook Express e-mails are saved here.

C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Identities\(really big number here)\Microsoft\Outlook Express\

When you re-install Windows, just copy the contents of that "Outlook Express" folder back into the directory!

Hope this helps!

Still hoping to recover OE as everything else is running great.

Wiggo100--I upgraded to 5.5 and ran the IE repair tool and still get the same error box when trying to start OE--MSIMN has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down--details--msimn has caused an invalid page fault in module msoe.dll and has caused a stack dump.

I'm stumped

Use the System File Checker to extract the file and replace it off the Windows CD then and hopefully that will fix it.

I once had a similiar problem on my w2k pro with IE5.1. search microsoft.com for msoe.dll and you'll see that's a known problem. they say it's because when you update IE they somehow didn't update msoe.dll right.

however their solution, which is to delete everything under c:\program files\outlook express\ directory and reinstall it, didn't solve the problem. I upgraded IE to 5.5 and it still didn't work. So I tried putting an older version of msoe.dll (version 5.0.2979.6700, dated 12/7/1999) found on my machine in to the directory and it worked. :)

Hope that helps.

Did the copy\paste of msoe.dll from the other computer with 5.0 to the 5.5 but no go. It wasn't working with 5.0 either. I hadn't had a modem on this motherboard since I swapped out mb's and lost my isa slot. Prior to that it was working.

Wondering if I should uninstall both IE and OE and try to install off of a disk. I think I have a disk with IE 5 somewhere around. Maybe try that later as its liveable right now although now Sims wont load or run since swapping out monitors and printers.

Sounds exactly what I have. Have to wait a bit to get at that computer as my wife is sleeping and I'm the "easter bunny" right now.

I'll let you know how it works out.

back to work hop....hop.....hop

The problem is solved. The OE files on my machine had all been changed to read only. How this happened I have no idea as this box was working fine a month ago prior to the mb swap when it lost its isa modem. Thanks a whole lot for all the help.
