Where does MS Outlook Express (Win98SE) store it's data for the accounts that are set up?

I've found the *.wab files for the address book, and the *.dbx files for the directories themselves. I'd like to be able to backup the actual account information & the message rules.

Thanks.

*.pst are the actual emails both in outlook express and outlook 2k

however why dont you just export them, go to file export, messages, that way you can store them somewhere else and then import them if you ever need them.

You've misunderstood me I think...

I need to backup/import/export the data to the actual user accounts. Both my wife & I have a couple of email accounts setup, ie wife@here.com husband@there.com, and I have them setup with message rules to go to mail directory: wife or husband, depending on the email address it's sent to. I need to find what data/files store that account information & message rules information.

Thanks for trying though.

Hrmm..check here... though these may only be your messages, but it's worth a shot nonetheless.
Each account setup for OE can be found in the following folders:

Windows\Application Data\Identites\{NUMBERS-AND-LETTERS}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

Well this is what you backup to save yor messages whenever you reformt. Also to check while profile goes with each folder open Tools>Options>Maintenece Tab. Then check out the folder under which everything is stored. Hope this helps you out.

Look no further!

I was looking for the same thing. I found and used Express Assistant 2000 and it worked perfect.

It even worked going from Win98 (O.E 5.0) to WinMe (O.E 5.5)!

Get it here

I think the account registration is stored in the Registry. Try:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Account Manager\Accounts\00000002

I think you will find all your account info in this general vicinity where you can edit it if you wish.

Budb, excellent. That's what I was looking for....it has all of them under those keys. :)

Now..if only I could figure out how to back up THAT area only from registry to a *.reg file so I could just 'double-click' it to re-enter the information back to the registry after a reinstall, I'd be all set. :)

Highlight the folder that you want to back up in the registry and then choose the registry option then export and save it to disk.

This will be a .reg file.
