Outlook Express hangs on opening

I?m having problems with Outlook Express 6 hanging during opening. I can get any messages by restarting in safe mode and saving them to an external folder and once I delete all messages from the Inbox Outlook will be fine for a while, but the problem comes back on a regular basis.

Does anyone have any ideas, cures?

The computer I?m having problems with runs Windows 98, Pentium II with 256mb Ram.
 
If you have anti-virus software, try turning that off and see if it helps.
You can also check here for some other things to try.

I'd tried some of the things suggested in the link you provided but with no success.

It was my virus software causing the crash AVG anti virus system version 6.0. Disabling it fixed ti straight away.

Bit of a bind as it means that it can't scan my emails. Anyone got any suggestions.

Have you tried to uninstall/reinstall the AVG?
