Hi,

I'm about to reformat my HD running Win2k and would like to know how to back up the emails I have in Outlook Xpress; when I moved form Win98 to Win2k I thought that by saving the emails in .dbx format would do the trick but after installing Win2k I couldnt import it back in OutlookXpress, I had to open the .dbx file in a text editor and dig through unreadable texts to find the emails hat were important, that was a real pain; then I was reading some magazine a while back and they said there was an utility to back up the Outlook's emails but now I cant find the mag anymore,

Any help greatly appreciated,

thnx

Dunno whether this will help or not, but you can backup your mails where it's stored. Go to Tools->Options->Maintenance->Store Folder. Get the folder name and back it up.

All you have to do is export it to outlook, then archive your mail into a .pst file. That simple.

I didn't read that other thread, but here's what I do. I just search for *.dbx files. That's the extension for your inbox, outbox, etc. Your address book is a *.wab file. I never mess with exporting, I just save these files and then import from them later.

edit: Doh!, I didn't read your whole post. You can import directly from those *.dbx and *.wab files. In Outlook Express go to File --> Import --> Messages --> Microsoft Outloook Express 5 --> Import Mail from OE5 Store Directory --> Now browse to where you saved the *.dbx files and pick OK. You can do a similar thing with the address book.
