Greetings,

I just setup my new system with 2 user profiles, one for myself and one for the wife...trying to get outlook express to work in both, but appears that we will have access to each other's inboxes...any way around this?

I have it working so under her profile, she can check only her mail and I can check only mine when logged on with my profile...Have mail addressed to her going in her inbox, mine to mine, etc, etc....but seems both mailboxes are common to both user profiles...any way around this?

I was going to use Outlook for mine and let her use outlook express, but seems like there is a way to do this....I downloaded Netscape to use the communicator for mail, but forgot why I changed to Outlook...Netscape is lame, imo =)

Any ideas?

Terp,

I use Outlook Express, and I just did a quick test where I set up a second identity. My second identity wasn't able to see any mail folders owned by the first identity, and vice versa.

Are you sure both have a password assigned?

Also, are both pulling mail from exactly the same mail server? I suppose that could potentially be a problem, as outlook may be making assumptions about the access each should have.

Hmmm. If it absolutely doesn't work for you and you're truly stuck, you could resort to setting up a separate windows profile for her. Unfortunatley, that means logging off and logging on to windows every time you want to switch (though not restarting the computer -- you can just switch windows identities.) Doing this will automatically have your mail (and outlook settings) stored in different places.

Unless I'm missing something, though, this definitely worked for me... I'm sending and receiving mail on my second profile, and my first, and there's no overlap...

<<Are you sure both have a password assigned?>>

Yea, each of us have our own Window's profile settings w/ passwords

<<Also, are both pulling mail from exactly the same mail server?>>

Nope, each Windows profile is setup for the pop and smtp server of the profile (i.e. my wife's outlook express under her profile checks her mail, mine checks mine...

That's the setup I have....we can't check each other's pop and smtp servers, but her inbox with her mail is also available in my outlook express under my windows profile...if that makes any sense =)

Ahhh, wait a minute!

I read your post like 10 times and something finally clicked...I meant we have different Windows 98SE profiles and settings at start-up (she logs on hers, I logon mine), but we were sharing the same outlook express program, just under a different environment....By profile, I think you meant Outlook profiles and not windows profiles, eh? =) I found some settings under switch identities which did the trick...I think =)

Thanks for the help, sir....been most helpful

Might be easier to just install Netscape and one of you use that mail program.

MontyBurns got the wheels turning, and after a little playing around, I was able to get it working...Many thanks!

Yea, I downloaded Netscape Communicator to use the mail program; however, I think I Outlook express has spoiled me....Used to be a big Netscape fan back in the 3.0-4.xx days of Netscape, but now I think it blows....and Netscape 6.0 is utter crap, imo....big, slow, cpu hog that is full of bugs.

I also downloaded Endora and got it running, but with Outlook working independently in both profiles, I think I'll stick with it =)

Excellent. Sorry, I was using "profiles" interchangably to mean a half dozen different things.

I, too, am a big Outlook Express fan, and having multiple e-mail programs on your computer is just a mess. I'm glad they added the "switch identities" option.
