Outlook/Exchange/Domain issues?

I'm trying to get my Outlook 2010 to talk to my work Exchange server. I'm tired of being stuck only using my laptop and its correspondingly tiny screen to complete my work when working from home.

So, using the same version of Outlook on both machines, I attempt to setup my home computer to point to my work machine and it seems to be unsuccessful. I figured this might be some sort of domain security, but that doesn't make complete sense, since the same details and credentials can be used on my smartphones (my work iPhone and my personal android).

Why is it that my personal Outlook just isn't working whereas my non-domained Smartphones are successful?

You can't make direct Exchange connections over the net. Ask your IT department if they have a VPN set up so that you can connect to your work's LAN. The other possibilities are POP and IMAP... but most companies disable those.

Do they have OWA setup? That might be your best bet.

Actually that is not true. As you can use Outlook Anywhere (used to be called RPC over HTTP)

You may need to check with your IT department to see how to set it up. Usually if you enter your email address and your domain password, the autodiscover should configure it correctly, if not you many need to set it up manually

There are a couple of things to do:
Make sure Outlook Anywhere is turned on. This is a property of the Client Access Server.
Then make sure your account has Outlook Anywhere enabled (usually by default...but that can change).
Finally (and what Dahak is alluding to) get the Outlook Anywhere name. This will be different than the Exchange Server name (at least it should be)..

Good Luck,
