Question Outlook email account issue (formerly MSN)

Budmantom

Lifer
I understand this isn't a Windows issue but I did see a better place to post this.

Three days ago I received a message that I've used too much storage in my email account I used 38GB and I only had 15GB of storage. I've deleted 20GB/50k emails, yesterday I ran into a little problem it won't let me empty the deleted folder it says "Try deleting your recoverable items folder. If that doesn't work contact your IT administrator" (unfortunately I'm the IT administrator) I emptied that folder yesterday now I'm stuck.

Any suggestions?

I'm a bit unclear. Are you using a mail client to empty the deleted items?

I've run into similar issues in the past with Outlook 2016 so I went into Outlook Web Access online on the web and was able to empty the folder from there.

I'm doing everything via web access online.

Yeah I'm having a tough time finding a number or an email address for any type of support.

Here is a thread you may not have seen that apparently corrects the problem based on retention policies and amending mailbox functioning.

I use 1 800 642 7676 for MS 1st level support.

Thanks for your help.

This morning I figured out a work around, I was able to move items out of the deleted folder to another folder and from that folder I was able to permanently delete them.

Most of what's said in that thread is a little over my head but it sounds like there is a 14 day retention rule so my issues may get resolved in 14 days or less?
