Outlook downloading hundreds of old-e-mails

At work, someone went and setup some computers to be part of a domain, where previously they had been setup as a work group. He set it up so the outlook e-mails are shared between the domain account and the local account; but when logged under the domain account, Outlook is downloading hundreds of old messages that had been already downloaded. Is there an option I can set in outlook to keep it from downloading all of those old messages?
 
My question is - why are old messages still on the server? Sounds like a job for MailWasher Pro.
