I have a client that has Outlook 2013 and is using IMAP. He had several folders that were "Stored on this computer". Today, I was moving him to a new PC and all of a sudden on the old PC, those folders were gone. Stranglely, I can still click on a email and when I click on the Move To button, I see those folders that I can move to. When I try to move, it says that it isn't available then disappears from that move to list.

What happened?

How did you move him to a new PC? Was it a completely fresh start, or did you use a tool like Windows Easy Transfer?

Did you move the PST file or otherwise rename/edit his windows profile?

I run Exchange, but we don't support IMAP here due to support headaches. I ran it for years and the protocol is pretty easy when you grasp a few concepts.

IMAP typically uses 2 files per mailbox. It has an index and a content file. It sounds like the move corrupted the index, or at least caused it to point to locations no longer valid.... When you are clicking on the Email, it's trying to search the old path referenced in the index and failing to find the mail.

If you actually moved the content, you should be able to rebuild the index. Google brought me here...I've never done it:

It was a fresh start. He logged on to his user onto the domain. I made the account in Outlook 2013 and I simply copied the .ost file from the old computer to the new computer and it said it was from another PC or something so I scarpped that idea and that's when we noticed everything was gone.
