Outlook 2003

How can I get rid of the tray icon when Outlook 2003 is active? I can't seem to find the option to remove it...

Go to the registry and find a value here: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Preferences
The value will be called MinToTray. Set the value to zero.
For other people, if you want Outlook to minimize to the systray (even for Outlook 2002), create this registry value and set it to 1.
