Outlook 2003 Question

can someone tell my why when i try to send an e-mail in outlook it adds =SMTP:name@address.com as the e-mail address rather than just name@address.com?

even when i change it back to name@address.com from =smtp:name@address.com it goes back to it when i click send very confused here

Have you tried out an alternative e-mail client? Are you certain it's Outlook and not your ISP?

What do you mean when you say you change it back? Do you mean that it's actually in the settings as SMTP:name@address.com ?

If so, that's odd... do you have an AV? Try disabling/removing it and see if it changes back. From my experience, when actual settings get change (such as incoming and outgoing being changed to localhost, or username is changed to username//localhost etc), it's the AV that's doing it.

well, it adds the =smtp before it even sends the e-mail.. and then outlook tells me that it can't be sent because the address is in an unkown format

that's why i'm quite certain it's outlook and not the isp (the other users don't have this problem either)

okay here's what happens...

I hit NEW E-mail... type in the person's address.. looks fine! so i type in the message... great

then i hit send... the message goes to my outbox and stays there.

so i go to my outbox and the to address has been changed from name@address.com to =smtp:name@address.com.. so when i say i changed it back i mean i deleted the =smtp: part and tried to send again.. outlook just puts it back to =smtp:name@address.com

My guess is that your Outlook is trying to resolve what you're typing into an SMTP compliant email.

At my company, all of the employees have a contact name that's just their name. If you look at the E-mail addresses under the properties, you might see a listing that starts with SMTP: and then the name@domain style email.

Is this a new install or a new problem on an existing install?

under e-mail accounts i accidentally added an exchange server in addition to my pop server
