Outlook 2003 hangs when opening a HTML mail with images in it

Hi,

I'm using Outlook 2003 on Windows XP SP3 all patched up, and I've noticed lately that when opening HTML mail that has images in them, it hangs for about a minute before opening the mail. This happens in the preview pane.

HTML mail without images, or rich text mail with images both work correctly, as does plain text mail. It seems that a combination of HTML mail and images in the mail causes this problem.

My Outlook version is 11.8330.8333 SP3, and in case it matters, my IE version is 8.0.6001.18702.

what about antivirus? SEP and others hook into outlook to check the message before it opens. it can also check the message on retrieval too. or one or the other.
