Outlook 2003 hangs when launched

When I launch Outlook the splash screen appear as does a blank program window and then it just hangs there for 3 or so minutes after which point it fully loads and operates normally. This happens 100% of the time, even when launching into Outlook's safe mode.

I've tried quite a few fixes I found doing search including creating a new Outlook profile, unchecking everything in the Add-In Manager and COM Add-ins, repairing the Outlook install, uninstalling/reinstalling Outlook, re-registering ole32.dll and inetcomm.dll, and deleting outcmd.dat/extend.dat files. Nothing has worked.

Any ideas?

How long have you had the outlook problem? Was there at the time the problem started any added software/hardware? What are the specs for your computer and which OS are you using?

I'd say it's been happening for at least two months. Up to this point I've just been ignoring it since it behaves normally once it finally loads, but I've finally decided to try and fix the issue. I don't recall the problem starting in association with any other software changes, but it's possible I'm forgetting something. This computer is running XP Pro and is an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ based machine.

I use a single PST and as a result there really isn't much actually stored in my mailbox. I don't even make use of the Contacts section in my mailbox. Even if I disconnect the PST and then close/reopen Outlook the same hang occurs.

do you have checking for remote computers and printers turned off in explorer?

Also i'd run combofix/spyware just to be sure if you haven't already....a rootkit can latch into outlook.

Also outside the outlook profile, your full profile may be corrupted. Create a new user and see if they have issues.

I was suspecting a leftover add-in or some software that added item to Outlook like Adobe PDF and esp if software was seemingly uninstalled properly left some pieces that Outlook is trying to load at startup and eventually giving up.
