I double click on .eml attachment in Outlook 2003: All it does is launch Outlook Express, but OE doesn't actually open the mail, it just sits there and stares back at me

if you have word as your default editor. Change that so it isn't. I bet that will fix your problem.

Turning off Word as default editor did not help. Also Outlook cannot read .eml files, which is why I changed it to O.E. in the first place.

The problem is clicking on the eml document only opens Outlook Express and not the email attachment, as if no argument was passed to the program.

I noticed the .eml file on my desktop has a Thunderbird icon (used it when I first installed computer, have since uninstalled it).

Thanks MrChad, this worked from your link:

To re-register the .eml file type in My Computer:
1. On the desktop, double-click My Computer.
2. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
3. Click the File Types tab.
4. Under Registered file types, click EML Outlook Express Mail Message, and then click Advanced.
5. Click Open, and then click Edit.
6. Type the following single line in the Application used to perform action box:
"C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\MSIMN.EXE" /eml:%1
7. Click OK, click OK again, and then click Close.
