Outlook 2002 problem & unrelated AIW 9800 issue

Trying to save bandwidth by consolidating 2 problems into one post.
Hope this works. I'm currently building multiple PCs and these two issues are on totally different machines, so there is no relationship.

1. Outlook 2002.
This is wierd. Just installed Office XP PRO Imported my .PST - no problem. I then added my email settings for my road runner account and I seem to only be able to send mail, but not receive.

I checked everything I could think of ten times. The account information and server names are correct (POP3). I can't think of why I would be able to send but NOT receive. I thought perhaps my personal folders weren't associated with the email account, but the emails I successfully send are in the "sent" box.

This is the first time I've used Office XP, I had been using office 2000 with no problems for years. I rebuild my system from scratch about 2 or 3 times a year (I like getting new CPUs and Motherboards) I just performed a clean install of Windows XP and Office XP.

Any Ideas????
TIA

2. Radeon AIW 9800 Pro
Building a digital editing workstation for my brother around this card, NF7-S, Barton2500 and lots of RAM. I installed the latest Catalist DRivers in the recomended order (WDM, Display Driver, Control Panel). Card seemed to work fine for about a day during Prime95 stress testing. When I got back from work after day two of stress testing it went bad. Was using latest Prime95. Day one was the max heat and cpu intensive. Day two was the Blend test which is more RAM intensive.

The card displays intense screen draw errors. Artifacts. Discoloration. Pixilation. etc. Sometimes its constant, sometimes it appears after a few minutes. I thought it might be a driver issue, so I decided to do a completely clean install. That is when I noticed that the issues show up exactly the same during POST and even when booting to DOS. Can't be a driver issue.

I tried reseating the card. I tried it in a different machine also built around an NF7-S. I have NOT tried it in a third machine built around a DFI board, as I'm pretty lazy, and pretty sure its just RMA time.

Any help would be appreciated. Please let me know if I should supply some additional information or clarify/expand on what I have already given

Thanks guys!

Hi, I'm not sure about the Outlook prob... but might be able to help on the AIW issue.

It's most definetly not due to drivers. I had a similar issue back when I had a 9700 pro, and after a week or two of fiddling with things, I figured out the problem. The stock thermal goupe/tape had completed melted, disfigured, and wasn't properly transfering heat. Solution? I just removed the heatsink, removed the stock stuff, and applied some artic silver to the core. Badda bing, no lines.

The only problem is, this voids your warranty of course. I'd guess an rma is probably your best bet.

cheers,

Joseph

Interesting, I did notice that it seemed to be generating a lot of heat, and seemingly too soon after boot.

Normally I wouldn't care about voiding the warrantee, I overclock evertying myself anyway, but this machine is for my brother who lives 2 states away and isn't computer saavy. So I guess I'll RMA. Sucks. This sounds like a common problem, but I didn't see anything in any of the threads I read at the usual sites (rage3d, etc.) How many times will I end up RMAing before I get a keeper? (thats rhetorical)

Anyway thanks!

How about the Outlook Issue? Anyone have an idea? Its got me stumped, and I'm about ready to reformat and just go back to Office 2000, or at least Outlook 2000...

Well the outlook issue could be many things. Have you updated Outlook from MS? Go there and get the update and see if that helps. Otherwise, if all other things are the same you might have to call your ISP for some support. Outlook is a squirrelly Beayatch but can be tamed with patience and patches.

Also, there is a "detect repair" function under the help heading in outlook that I have used a couple of times successfully.

Hope this helps,

Did you specified that messages not be sent until the next send/receive when you setup the account?
On the Tools menu, click Options \ Mail Setup tab.
Select the Send messages immediately when connected check box.

Artifacts, Discoloration, Pixilation during the POST indicates BAD or OVERHEATED Ram chipson the Video card.

Thanks for the suggestions:
1. Office update: up to date, no new updates, couldn't find an specific Outlook 2002 update just for office XP
2. Tried the detect repair function, no change.
3. Tried checking and unchecking the "send immediately" box, no change. But i'm having trouble receiving email NOT Sending. I'll have to try RR support, which I'm sure will take for ever and yield nothing...

Any other ideas?
thanks,

Double check where your new mail is being delivered. Go to Tools -> Email Accounts -> View or change existing email accounts and hit Next. Look under the "Deliver New Email to the Following Location" and see if there are 2 Personal Folders listed.

What I have noticed happens is when you try to link an old PST to a new install of XP, XP creates a default PST on install and usually puts it under C:\Documents and Settings\%Username%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook and that is where it will try to deliver email until you manually point it to deliver it to your old PST.

Hope this helps.

For Outlook problem, see if this helps.
Tools -> Email Accounts -> choose your email account -> click on change -> click on more settings -> click on advanced tab -> check "This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)" and increase the server timeout time right below it to 2-3 minutes. Goodluck,

Thanks for all the help Gents. Since nothing seemed to work I was left with the hopeless option of calling RR tech support.

First thing "Lisa" says is we don't suport Outlook2000, or O2003, only Outlook Express. Then she double checks mail settings. Then she says "do you have any virus or firewall'? They always blame this, since i just rebuilt my machine, I didn't have any virus software yet, I insisted that the XP firewall couldn't be the problem. She says to remove and reenter the mail settings. Again I shake my head, but humor her. So I turn off the default XP firewall and bounced my mail settings.

HOLY SH^T, now it works. I tried that already didn't I? Well anyway, now its fixed. I'm pretty sure that I tried that and it didn't work, why it works now, no clue, I have since turned the firewall back on and its fine. I troubleshoot routers, WANS, and servers and I get stuck on the dumbest thing ever...

Thanks again for the suggestions I can always count on the AT community!!!!
