Outlook 2002 back problem!!

I am trying to backup my Outlook 2003 to another computer which has Outlook 2002. I did the export function in outlook 2003 and did a .pst file with all my info. I transfered the file over to the 2002 computer but it says it is not compatible with this version.

When I backed up the file on the 2003 it said "compressible encryption", should I have chosen No encryption to get it to work? Or is there something esle I am doing wrong?

Outlook 2003 Unicode PST

Outlook 2003 is getting close to it's release date and trial versions will be available.

If you try Outlook 2003, don't forget that it uses a new Unicode PST format that is not compatible with previous versions of Outlook. You'll need to move or copy the Outlook items to an OL97/2002 PST format if you test Outlook 2003 using a Unicode PST.

Outlook will not convert your existing PST to Unicode. If you create a new profile and let Outlook create a new PST, Outlook will use Unicode.

Hotmail and IMAP account use OL97/2002 PST format for the local copy.

I don't beleive downconverting is supported. You'll need to export/import (on the file menu)

It means an Outlook 2003 PST is not backwards compatible. 😉

As bsobel suggested, you'll need to export/import it in a different format.

What I've done in the past to accomplish this is to create a new 97-2002 store using New->Outlook Data File. you'll get a choice to use the downlevel file format. You can then go through the export process and point it to the new PST.
