The computer I'm working on used to be on a large network and used Exchange Server back when the company was larger. Now they've downsized all operations and they have this one PC running XP Pro, that I can't get Outlook 07 to work on. It searches for the Exchange Server when it starts, and I cannot stop it from doing so.
Outlook has been uninstalled twice, and this time I installed in a new folder - C:\Office. I figured that would overwrite any registry entries that make it look for the exchange. But no matter what, the problem persists.
In addition, the computer won't send send or get email because of this error. I have added a new email address and properly set it up. When you click on 'test settings' Outlook shows no errors at all. Yet emails don't go anywhere. There is another PC in the office and I used the same settings to install the new person on that machine. Works fine. Same exact settings and same version of Outlook. But that other computer was not on the Exchange so there's no issue.
Please tell me what I need to do to keep Outlook from searching for the Exchange Server when it starts. It won't let me delete that address that has the exchange server tied to it, because it tells me that the data is in the process of being copied to my other PST file. I moved the data file for the new email address, to another folder and created a new PST as well. Nothing works to keep it from looking for the exchange, and I can't delete the exchange from it's settings.
