Outhouses

How many people here have actually gone No. 2 in a real outhouse? Not a port-a-potty, but a splinters in the butt, stinky outhouse.

I'm 48 years old, so I knew a lot of people in my childhood that did not have running water in their houses. So I've had that distinct pleasure.

CONWAY, N.H. ? A man arrested after being found in the sewage tank of an outhouse says he was only looking for his wedding ring.

Gary Moody, 45, pleaded not guilty on July 18 to trespassing and disorderly conduct for his arrest in June after a teenage girl noticed him looking at her from the depths of a toilet seat. In court documents, police reported that Moody insisted he was not doing anything wrong and had gone into the sewage tank to retrieve a wedding ring he had accidentally dropped while changing clothes.

"He told me that he was changing clothes when he dropped his wedding ring into he toilet," Carroll County Sheriff's Capt. Jon Herbert wrote in his report. "He said the ring was very valuable and he did not want to return home without it."

Police said they examined the sewage and did not find a wedding ring. Moody, Herbert wrote, said he lowered himself directly through the toilet opening to search for the ring and tried to hide out of embarrassment when he heard someone enter the outhouse.

County law enforcement officials said they do not know how long Moody was in the sewage tank but they had to decontaminate him before his formal arrest.

We have one up at our cabin in Wisconsin.

It's not too bad if you build 'em properly & ventilate 'em right.

The ugly part is the cold season ... some of your parts get mighty chilly.

The bugs & spiders are a bit of a concern too .... but you get used to 'em.

No big deal.

QFT.

We have one at my parent's cottage.

It was built by my grandpa for use while he was building the house (now my parent's cottage). It was several years until the house had indoor plumbing, since it was a part time endavor (between working and fishing he worked on the house 🙂).

We keep it up for fun...since you don't see them too much anymore...and people use it while hunting and fishing in the area.

Ditto everything! Since I can remember, we've re-located our outhouse twice at our lake cabin. The funny thing is, we had to put in a septic tank so our lot would meet minimum requirements, though, we still don't use the tank. 🙂 We also had to get rid of our well.
