Outdated CDRW on a Promise controller?

Is it "okay" to use an old 4x HP CDRW on the Secondary channel of a Promise ATA66 or ATA100 controller? Any known issues, ill-effects, etc. ?
 
my bets would be that it would work. It will show up as a SCSI device though. Your burner softwear could stop you,but NERO would save you. I believe.
