Hi All,

I had just installed a new backbone system with my Asus M4A79T Deluxe Motherboard paired with a Phenom II 955 black edition

Upon boot up,
I see 3 red LEDs lit up on my HD4890 card,
and the PC will not Boot

anything that I have not connected?
or is there a clash of devices?

Please see pictures below
any sort of advice is greatly appreciated
thanks

The LEDs are supposed to indicate there isn't enough power going to it. Do you have two 6-pin connections going to the card? What power supply do you have?

Hi there,

Yes, I have the 2 x 6 pins PCI-E connector hook up to the card

anything else that I should check on?

I am using a 800 W gigabyte modular PSU
these connectors are linked directly to the PSU btw

Well there seems to actually be four LEDs on your HD4890. As to why only 3 are lighting up I don't know. Hopefully someone who has the card can come along and clarify.

Make sure the card is seated properly in the motherboard, also disconnect and reconnect the PCIe power connectors making sure they're securely seated both on the video card side AS WELL AS the PSU side (since it's modular).

Hi, I have reconnected the PCIE power connectors and also reseated the card
The Modular socket is also reconnected to make sure it is tight

Same problem persist

now I noticed one thing,
when I removed the VGA card and do a boot up
there is still no beep, could it be that the motherboard or CPU giving problems?

I also tried removing both modules of RAM and without VGA card to do a start up
Still no beep.

Tested the VGA card on my previous Motherboard DFI Nforce4 Ultra-D
and the card boots up perfectly

If the CPU is faulty, will the system beep once? or will it not indicate anything?

I had this issue once and it turned out to be the mobo bios corrupted. There was nothing to do then to rma it. Usually, cpus are strong bastards, so I'm more inclined to say it's the motherboard.

anyone here using the same board with such BIOS issue?

I remember using an old Asus A7N8X Deluxe back in the Nforce2 days
and RMA the board like 4 times

Can't believe they haven't had such issues tackled years later :-(

anyway have confirmed LED lights status as below:-

D1602 - ON (external power A removed)
D601 - OFF
D1601 - ON (critical temp)
D1603 - ON (external power B removed)

when in reality , both power connectors are securely fasten

I have an HD 4890 and to date I didn't even know there were LEDs in that position.

Sounds like something is shorted.. Is this a fresh built system? By any chance, did you try it out before putting it all together? (I mean outside the case)

Have you tested the power supply in another computer? I'd try that first. If that doesn't work, then double check your build and make sure everything is connected properly. I'm more inclined to agree with the above that this is a motherboard-related problem if the PSU checks out.

Yes, this is a fresh built system

but I got this PSU 6 months ago
tested stable in my old config, reusing it

the VGA card was also tested to work fine before I upgraded to this Phenom II + Asus Motherboard

I also think it's your motherboard.
My 4890 LEDs don't light up and stays off.

Does the fan speed on your 4890? if not, check the fan connector.

Tested the fan connection

working alright. so I will go ahead to RMA the board since most of you agree it could be a bios corrupted

Hi All,

Just to update you with the outcome

The issue is resolved!

It was not a BIOS corrupt issue
Its simply that the ASUS board was not having the latest bios flash
Which means that it could not detect the Phenom II 955

Nothing was wrong with the VGA card

Nonetheless, the technician actually used an older processor to boot up the system
flash it to the latest version online

and then everything booted without issues

So there ya go
I would again want to thank everyone for their support with this troubleshooting!

Cheers!

I had this exact same problem, but for a totally different reason.

First, my card was running fine, but I have an extremely quiet system so the video card was dominating the noise. So I tried to install an Accelero S1 Rev. 2 on it to quiet the card a little. The Accelero fit OK, however, when I tried to start the system, I first recevied an error about the power plugs not being inserted. They were. Later the system wouldn't boot up, and I saw the same 3 LEDs.

I was worried that I somehow broke the card while putting on the Accelero, but I decided to put the stock HSF back on and try it , just in case. Well, everything worked perfectly once the original HSF was back on!

After some research, the problem was that the VRMs were not being cooled enough. I had the heatsinks on them (from the accelero kit) but apparently those aren't good enough - you need really good contact, and active cooling.

So I'm currently stuck with the stock cooler. The noise isn't "that" bad - it's just louder than what I'm used to. To get the Accelero to work, I'm pretty sure I would have to cut (hacksaw) the original HSF, and keep the portion which covered the VRMs and other power circuitry. There are plenty of screws to keep this section of the HSF on all by itself, without the rest of the heatsink. Then I would install the Accelero and RAM sinks as normal.

A big pain, though. I would like to just buy a new original HSF for the card so I can hack that one up, keeping the original intact. For now, I'm downclocking the card on games which don't need much horsepower (which is just about all my games) and it's stays reasonably quiet, although the fan tends to foten get stuck in a state where it's constantly changing speeds. I will fix this by adjusting the fan profile...

I had a similar problem. Everything boots, fans spin, no beeps, but no display. Found out that my DVI port on my LCD was broken.
