I am building a new system athlon 64 3200+venice 1gb pc 3200 , now i need help on a PCIe video card , I have a chance to get either a x1800x 256mbl for $270 u.s or an x1800xt 512mbfor $375 u.s , my monitor limits me to 1280x1024 gaming and i would like the card to last a yea or year and a half at least and still be able to play with aa/af and all the goodies turned on lol .

so what one of those is better is the extra 256mb worth 100 bucks ? games I'm planning on playing are day of defeat source quake 4 ,enemy territory quake wars , x3 , aoe3 . and elder scrolls oblivion, or would i be better served to wait for the x1900's to drop down in price

one other question i only have one hd will a 400w power supply be enough for that setup ?

thanks for any advise I've been out of the loop for awhile and I'm trying to catch up on all the new tech happenings :)

I assume you mean a X1800XL for $270 and an X1800XT for $375. Both of these will compete in the same market as a $280 7800GT and a $490 X1900XT, so this is tough. The XL and the 7800GT are pretty close in performance, and the increase in price will be pretty linear with the increase in performance for the X1800XT and X1900XT. At your prices though I would probably grab the X1800XT. I would also be concerned about the power supply. What brand is it?
