Out-of-sync problem in creating a movie from a avi captured from a digital camera. Help !

I made a movie of my sons school play. In the end, the DVD plays fine, except the video is slightly out of sync with the sound. How can this be ? I am using Pinnacle studio 8 on a XP1700 CPU. Anybody ever have this happen ? I thought this was impossible ?

Any help is greatly appreciated.
