I just bought a GA-7ZX motherboard with an athlon 1.1 Ghz processor. The problem is that when I do a fresh install of Windows 98, during the scandisk processes before the windows 98 setup I receive an error message saying "Out of Memory" this prevents me from installing the operating system. What can be wrong? I am using a PC133 SDRAM.

Are you using more than 512MB? If you are win9x/me can't deal with it.

Use a startup disk with himem.sys loading up from config.sys
Then you shouldnt get out of memory error running scandisk.

You might also try running setup with the command line switch /IM which will force it to skip the check for low conventional memory under DOS. Like so: setup /IM <enter>

You also could try the setup switch to skip scandisk. Although Im not sure you still wouldnt get the out of memory error on down the line.

setup /is

Lots of neat switches you can use setting up Win98, mostly needed for setting up unattended installations.

Go to yahoo and do a search on Setup Switches

Revned, look for a 'load defaults' switch in your BIOS. There may be a switch of that sort to get you back 'on the road'.

Mariner: I tried looking for anything similar to loading "BIOS Setup Defaults" but no luck. I guess i'll have to get an RMA on this motherboard and get a working system instead.

Revned, I would try everything first. Reseat everything, mem, video, HDD plugs, everything. Try some part swaping if you have any extras that you know are good, and you don't suspect they would be damaged in the swaps:p Another HDD with a bootable partition? No need to go thru an RMA switch if it ain't necessary.

Good luck!

Its not showing anything at all now? Does that motherboard have a battery? If it does remove it, put it back in and try again.
