i bought a used Canon 30d and am thinking about having it thoroughly cleaned just to start off with a 'clean slate' so to speak.

how much am i looking at shelling out?

The sensor is the only thing that might need professional wet cleaning.

You can clean the rest yourself with some QTips and isopropyl alcohol.

Take a picture of a white wall at f/22.

If you don't see any black dots on the image, you are good to go and the sensor does not have dust specs on it.

You can buy supplies to clean the sensor yourself for about $60. Very nerveracking, but it's nice to know how to do on your own.

Put the camera into sensor cleaning mode and stick it out the window while driving at 70mph. Twist it around a bit so the air gets all up in there.

I have no idea how much it costs for just a cleaning. I've always sent my cameras in for some catastrophic failure. Canon charges at least $200 for any kind of service done to DSLRs though. Not sure if a simple cleaning would be in this category.

We have a couple of worthy techs here in Tucson, and the normal fee is $35 for a wet cleaning. I've done it twice in the past 10 years.
