Someone gave me the following poem. We don't know who the author is, but I think it is really great. When I first read it I thought it was okay, but then I really read it. When I did that, it hit me like a ton of bricks.
Be Careful
Be careful of your thoughts
for your thoughts become your words
Be careful of your words
for your words become your actions
Be careful of your actions
for your actions become your habits
Be careful of your habits
for your habits become your character
Be careful of your character
for your character becomes your destiny!
It may not always be just one word that changes everything, but there is a lot of truth to that. If you do something wrong and say the words, "I'm so stupid", then that becomes your thought. After a while of thinking you're stupid, you may begin to change. I mean, why try really hard if you're stupid anyway, right? After a while of your actions, this becomes your habit. Once that is your habit...not trying, not succeeding...it becomes your character. Then, before you know it, you've set your destiny. You believe your stupid, you believe you can't succeed, so you don't.
I also feel the same about that for parents with children. When I hear parents tell their kids, "Come on stupid, you know you can do better." Or "You're such an idiot." anything like that, it really hurts me. I know that for the most part kids look up to their parents. Once they think that their parents think that about them, then they never try and always believe those harsh, untrue words.
I don't know if this will make sense to anyone, but I know I want to really try to watch what I say. Not only about myself, but also about other people.
