Our society...

I dunno, I find myself increasingly jaded.
empty pursuits of objects that just seem to offer a distraction and not any true fulfillment.
I think i may need to regain a sense of spirituality..or at the least begin doing something other than helping myself + those in my immediate circle.

Don't be so emo.
If your pursuit of life is that vain, go do something else. Go to Tibet.

Reality is that society is fine, you're the one with problems.

Im kinda stuck, house, pending marriage.etc.
its not a matter of being emo as much as it is being human.

Excuses, excuses, excuses. Tied down by your own perceived and self-inflicted desire to have material possessions.
You can just as easily get angry at life than you can go and sell all your material possessions and rework marriage plans.

Go with the flow, be a minimalist, drop everything, sell it all and leave. It really is that easy.
It's not the "constraints" society puts on you, it's the shackles you willingly lock yourself into.

Sell it all, go buy a farm and live the simple life.

"simple life" in quotations. Farming is hard, but it isn't rocket science.

owning a subsistence farm and doing nothing else would make me arguably less valuable to society.

hmm? "valuable to society"

what is your job? i'm guessing you are valuable to a corporation's bottom line and pretty much useless to society like most of the rest of us.

do you want to be valuable to society or valuable to yourself?

Don't listen to Sampson, he's just your typical internet savant.

Today's society isn't better or worse, it's just different. Certain values have changed but the fundamental concept of being human still exists - the pursuit of happiness.

You want to contribute to society? Get married, have some kids, and raise a happy, healthy family. Just note that having money is not a necessity, and too much of it can and often does corrupt. But having it, and being responsible with it can make that path a lot easier. And working a 9-5 job allowing you that luxury could end up being worth it, so long as it doesn't interfere with the happy, healthy family part.

Just get your priorities straight.

I am noone important, just another consumer; which i'd be even less of owning a farm and growing food for only myself.

Why is your opinion any more worthy than mine? You're just as much of an "internet savant" than I. You are just the typical "internet savant" who feels they know more than the person who's opinion they are contesting, therefore making their opinion more valueable. People live different ways and there is no right and wrong way of living. The way you suggest living is neither more or less valuable than any way of life I suggested to the OP. Since the OP seems to view his current standing and path in society with disdain, I suggest the polar opposites of what he currently lives. I know it's hard for you to understand, but at least give it a try genius.
BTW, your useage of the word "savant" is very poor in this thread.

owning a subsistence farm and doing nothing else would make me arguably less valuable to society.
Why? By what measure are you viewing your "contributions to society"?
