So because the morons on capital hill don't know how to budget, the FBI is somehow pathetic? I hardly think so. They're hard working folks, putting their lives on the line to protect YOU. If you want to bitch about someone, bitch about the idiots at the capitol who have very f'ed up financial priorities.

Right, the whole of the FBI's email funding issues can all be solved by buying a couple new HDD's.

The FBI doesn't belong to the Small Business Association. The FBI is freaking HUGE. Try entire data centers dedicated to electronic communication.

Maybe the FBI just doesn't use their money properly and now has to make cutbacks.

Looks like some people on capital hill doesn't know how to budget. Not to make this P&N but is this linked to the money spent on the war?

It'd be pretty hard if not impossible for the war, now 3 years running, not to impact the FBI budget.

This isn't surprising; the FBI is notoriously behind the times and fiscally inefficient when it comes to technology. Latest price tag on Sentinel: $500,000,000.00.

Is that with a pinky on the lip?

Seriously, it seems like the government in general is hooked into all sorts of second rate technology deals. Corporations have really learned how to milk naive bureaucrats for all that the taxpayers are worth.

Bah don't place blame soley on the government or on the FBI. Place it on both of them. Both are extremely inefficient...

So true... Did you catch the article? The FBI already blew through $170 million on a scrapped central database project. Mind you, they should have the most sophisticated crime-fighting tools at their disposal. I have a hard tiem conceptualizing that money just vanishing, producing nothing useful nor tangible. Truly pathetic...

If you have a problem with what I said don't do a petty beating around the bush. Say what you want to say. I think the way I put it is perfectly appropriate.

"Christine Monaco, a spokeswoman for the FBI in New York, said Monday that all FBI agents can communicate with each other via a secure internal e-mail system, and about 75 percent of the New York office's employees have outside e-mail accounts. "

Isnt gmail/yahoo/hotmail free?!

I think the FBI, more than likely, could afford email adresses. But they want more money, so they whine and cry about how they can't afford email, make it a big issue, and then the easily manipulated public tells thier senators to give more money to the FBI.

After the compromise (see post above), FBI agents were using free accounts. I had some communications with an agent that was using a yahoo account. It was not their long-term solution and I am not sure if they are still using it but it was their only way to send email externally at that point. I agree that it is a bad idea and unprofessional in appearance but they have to make do when circumstances require it.
