"Our New World" by Dream Theater. Excellent Uplifting song.

'A New Beginning'

I'm a huge Dream Theater fan.. but I'm going to step out on a limb and say the guitar work from 5:00 till the end is the best I've ever heard out of Petrucci. It's bleeding David Gilmour but it has Petrucci's signature surgical precision. Absolutely 'astonishing' blend of style, emotion, and technique.

Dream Theater. Heck yea.

EDIT: Link above was removed for copyright.

However, I think this song might actually be the better one.

I can't call any new song their best yet until after time and many listens. They just have too many to choose from. I look forward to giving the new double album plenty of time and attention, though.

Jesus.. this new CD is overwhelming. So much music and content.

It's called 'The Astonishing' and holy shit it is. 2 CD's worth of stuff.

It comes out Friday, but there's plenty of stuff on the web already.

I mean, I like Dream Theater, they are incredible musicians and have ridiculous talent. They also have some pretty good songs, BUT it all just seems so uninspired and emotionless. Even their ballads come across as forced to me.

That said I still listen to them once in a while and will definitely be checking out the new album.

it's aight. some good tracks on it.

Problem I find right now is that they're not really songs.. It's a bunch of 'segments' and most have no song structure.

I will be open minded, but I have yet to enjoy anything they've produced winced Portnoy left.

I think they have songs that moreso tell a story rather than dealing with emotions like every other band... always making another song about some bitch that dumped them... etc.. etc... Gets kind of stale, so I find Dream Theater rather refreshing in that regard.

What I dont find refreshing is that every album seems to get progressively worse after Scenes from a memory.... just like any other major band.

dude what the fuck is going on with this new DT album "The Astonishing".

holy shit this is like heavy metal Disneyland music.

Have to say, even as a big DT fan, not feeling that album at all. They went a bit too classical and early 90's sounding. It's all very middle of the road, with not emotion.

Scenes from a Memory and Train of Thought remain my favorite albums.
