Our local school board member admits hating whites and gays

Brenda Shelling was the VP of the school board but had to step down from that this past week, but remains on the board. Below is the transcript of a private Facebook chat with someone who had mentioned her in one of his posts. This is one of many instances as well, not some one off thing. Absurd that she's still on the school board!

Shelling: Aren't you something lives in Mandeville and in the Monroe Politics!!!!

Wink: Oh I'm from Monroe, but it doesn't matter where I'm from. The video of you acting everything but professional, has been shared around the US. You really made our town proud. (eye roll emoticon)

Wink: The fact that you would even acknowledge someone, who has nothing to do with the school system, says everything about you. You are literally a bigger disgrace than the zoo keeper that shot Harambe.

Shelling: You are one ignorant white boy. I am sur poor white trash!!!!!

Wink: Lol

Shelling: (Thumbs up)

Shelling: Educated what's your excuse?

Shelling: Yep, you are poor white trash and Chaz is not your name. You are a coward just like most of you kind!!!

Wink: Lol. Your attempt at enticing me to play your racist games has failed, and I don't need an excuse to dislike someone that made a mockery of Monroe's school system on camera, or one that brought a gun to a school to shoot her cheating husband.

Shelling: Wow, I have never owned a gun!! Where did you get that. Now you are getting personal. Would love to meet you coward. Bet you are homosexual as well with the name Chaz!!!!!!

Wink: Your viral video was enough.

Shelling: If you come in my face and call me out of my name I'll get in your face as well

Shelling: Coward. People love Brenda Shelling and what she stands for. You coward white trash!!

She resigned after a heated board meeting where she was upset that she wasn't made aware of a trip by the board president and the superintendent to D.C. to meet with the justice department over desegregation sanctions as well as being upset that the current school board president (who is no saint either) tried to make a logical cost saving decision surrounding a new field house for a predominantly black high school around here.

Historically, McFarland said the past and current board has allowed some members to make trips without the whole board meeting to discuss the process. He said he and Dayton are the two longest-serving members.

"When Miss Shelling went," McFarland said, "it was fine."

After the meeting, Shelling said she doesn't feel that her work is being appreciated. She said she's been doing "most of what the president should have been doing" from the kindness of her heart.

"It's amazing to me when you're talking about projects how we're cutting costs when it's on the South side of town, for whatever reason it may be, but we don't even consider the escalation of costs when it's not on the South side of town. I'm going to ask this board to allow the firm to continue with their original plan of where that fieldhouse is going to be," Shelling said.

She said board members who represent the South side cannot allow their projects to be diminished "for the purpose of cutting costs when, in fact, we have never done that to any other project."

To say that she is an embarrassment to the city and a real piece of work is an understatement. Our city school board has been dysfunctional for years, running off superintendent after superintendent who can't or won't put up with their bs. The current superintendent is good and well respected on both sides of town (north being predominantly white and south being predominantly black) and it'd be a shame to see him run off as well.

Monroe, LA is about 60% black and 40% white and is mostly known for being home to the Duck Dynasty folks (that's actually West Monroe but whatever) and being the headquarters of Centurylink which is the largest company in the state.

I don't know anything about the history of this woman, but if I don't like the idea of private Facebook convos being a deciding factor on her continued employment, unless she confesses to something blatantly illegal or unethical (like intentionally treating white students worse). The Harambe thing being brought up seems like blatant racial trolling anyways. I don't see the problem in those other two quotes; she complained because she perceived cuts disproportionately affecting people from the black side of town?

Not too long ago, we had a guy on our board who was "kicked out"
He was a volunteer firefighter, led the cub scout troop and also volunteered his time for all sorts of local stuff. Always trying to to do the right thing for the community. Stand up guy.
Took some meds (he recently had some medical issue) one night and got a little loopy. Posted something stupid on facebook.
Some of the mommy mafia saw it and blew it way out of proportion. Brought it up to the all the boards he was sitting on with "How can we lets someone like this represent the blah blah blah blah"
He went from "the guy" in the community to "that guy".
Shortly after the public shaming, his family decided to move to another state.

Was a shame because his wife was great resource in the PTA.

Long story short
Social media would be a lot better if people stopped saying things on it and just posted pictures of their cats
