Yes, we purposely purchased the fainting goats. We're trying to get another half dozen or so this spring. My wife wants to raise them.

This one is still lacking a name... But, I think my wife is going to want to try to stay with the Spongebob theme of naming them. (Sandy, Patrick, Gruff (doesn't fit the theme, but oh well) )

If she doesn't have a name for it, I'll probably leave it up to ATOT to come up with a good idea... I liked "Patches" for some odd reason...

Yeah, probably blood in that picture.

It was *JUST* born an hour before that picture was taken.

We didn't even know the mother was pregnant! It was quite a surprise this morning to see a new baby out in the barn. He's a fainting goat. One eye has a patch of black over it; the opposite ear is all black. Really cute baby!


edit: My wife and I checked it out more closely... apparently our 14 year old son can't tell the difference between a girl and a boy.. Updated with pics my wife took tonight.

I hear goat meat taste good.

Although, I'd like to also raise another breed of goat exclusively for meat... the market is really good for them right now. (and is only going to get better)

Yes, that's one of the breeds for meat production. Goats are really easy to care for (so far), although the baby resulted in a $50 vet call (the mother had a torn vaginal wall from the birth.) But, the vet made a housecall; $50 for a housecall isn't bad at all
The rest of the routine stuff - shots, etc., we do ourselves.

Yes. Our youngest son named him Checkers. He says with the one black ear and the one black eye being on the opposite sides it looks like a checker board. I guess I can see where he would think that.
