So this weekend my wife and I worked on our baby Alexander's new nursery. We're still working on it and have a couple of things to add to finish it up but since he's due this week we wanted to get the essentials ready for him. Check out our work in progress and tell us what you think. Please no negative comments. Thank you.

Due date is August 15th, but doctor is expecting to induce labor this Friday. My wife is a high-risk patient and the doctor wants to be cautious so he's recommending that we induce this Friday.

Theme, what theme? I don't see no theme. ;)

our first one came a little over 4 weeks early and we hadn't quite set everything up yet and it kind of bummed my wife out.

our second one was much easier to prepare for, and in fact, we used a bassinette instead of the crib (until he learned to climb out...just one 3 foot drop to freedom!).

hevnsnt, great furniture. We were going to Pottery Barn for the same crib but alas made a detour and went to Baby Depot and picked out the one we ended up buying. Congrats on your upcoming baby as well :)

DnetMHZ, I hope he's not afraid of bears either :) or I'll have to re-decorate in a hurry.

MagicConch, I have no idea....but the crib we got turns into a daybed and a full size bed when the baby grows up so it should accomodate fine when he's ready to move out of his crib. Any experts on this matter? I'm guessing around 2-3 years old maybe.

Heh. We also had a bunch of toys arranged in bed, blankets, little handkerchiefs, other crap hanging around, what not. Baby arrived, and all of this went straight into the box until she was 2 months old. Toys are useless, and get in the way when you need to change the baby at 3 am. You don't want her to choke on those extra blankets either.

In the end, the room turned into pure function: a changing dresser _very_ close to the crib, so that you could quickly lift the baby from the bed and onto the changing pad. A diaper geenie at hand. A stockpile of fresh linens and diapers. I don't think we installed a mobile until she was 1 month old and started to focus her eyesight. Until then all you need is talk to her/him and feel you both are there.

We're putting a bassinette in our room next to our bed in case he can't sleep in his own room we'll have a place close to us.

thats what we did, it makes a lot of sense... probably what will happen is the little guy will want to nurse every 3-4 hours, and its a lot easier on transferring from and to the bassinette than the crib.... Also, our baby seemed to sleep better in the bassinette because it was cozier (warmer).

it really depends on the child.

my niece stayed in her crib until she was 3 then moved to a regular sized bed.

some other memeber here posted that his kids moved to regular beds when they were 2 years old. but i believe they co-slept until that age. i think it was bryophyte.

my daughter is 2 years old and is still sleeping in her crib. when she consistently goes to sleep on her own and sleeps through the night and it's safe enough, we'll move her to a big girl bed.

pancho, do you have a changing table or a rocking chair? we've found those to be invaluable.

We simply installed everything in our bedroom from the start. I think we'll move her into her own room in a couple of months now that she sleeps soundly through the night.

blackdogdeek, we have a changing table on the other side of the room....it's not shown on the picture but definitely got one. As far as rocking chair, my wife tested some of them out this weekend and we're picking one up this week. I told her my sister had one when she had her babies and found it to be of great use for both her and the baby so I wanted my wife to have one as well.

I haven't picked up a diaper genie yet but I'm hoping to get one this week, I want that room to stay as clean as possible and smell as good as it can :)

we did that too, but with a co-sleeper (not to be confused with co-sleeping). it's basically a bigger basinette that connects to the bed.

Awww, cute! I really like the setup! Congrats, too! I can't wait to start a family someday.

hevnsnt, I suggest cleaning the lens of your camera...you have spots on your pictures and probably some dust or specs of junk on the tip of your lens!

Thanks everyone for your input, I'll be sure to post pix of the little guy shortly after he's born. This is our first baby and we are giddy with excitement, I can't help walking into the nursery and lighting up with a smile everytime I see the setup.

Heh, I don't have any kids, but this is sort of how I was thinking, too. I don't think a newborn really has any interest in bears or bears who play sports, decorationg the nursery seems to be more for the parents than the kid.
