She should be in jail for child endangerment, at the very least.

This is yet another example of how laws don't really do much to prevent certain things from happening. Taking away a driver's license does not prevent you from driving. Only taking away the keys or the vehicle itself can do that.

Had a local doctor who was busted (again) for DUI. They busted him a few days later driving away from a bar - intoxicated. He had surrendered his keys - but not ALL his keys. They confiscated his car. A few days after that he was pulled over driving his wife's car. They confiscated her car. The very next day he was arrested trying to rent a car. This time, no bail.

Sometimes people are slow learners and it takes the law awhile to get through.

Liberal response - It is not her fault. She was probably drinking to ease the pain of being oppressed her whole life. After being sexualized and oppressed her whole life she finally broke down. Some feminist organization will along shortly with lawyer in tow.

She does not need jail, she needs therapy. And how dare the authorities hand over the child to its father. This is a violation of her rights as a mother.

Society did this to her, society drove her to drinking. We should be ashamed of ourselves and what we have pushed this woman to do.

Conservative response - Throw her in jail.

Just seems like a person who needs some help. For drinking problem, and probably for whatever mental/emotional problems underlying the drinking. Breaking out pitchfork, tar and feathers isn't my goto response to this for whatever reason, but hey, that's just me.

Also: what the hell is OUI?

At first I thought either french for yes, or the old girlie mag from the 70's.

What is that, Outside under the influence? Ovulating under the influence? Seriously, I have no idea. But then I probably don't do whatever O is while under the influence of anything.

I think much of that has to do with the social and legal status of alcohol. People seem to view alcohol as "no big deal" because you can buy it anywhere. If the doctor or this woman were under the influence of meth, much more trouble would be coming their way, even if no possession was involved.

Wow. Props to law enforcement on that one. I think that kind of dedication is rare and that type of story, unfortunately, is the exception and not the rule in cases like that.

I bet you vote democrat.
You've graduated to being one of the dumbest posters around here. Congrats. Not 'the' dumbest, but you're not far off.

If I were a democrat, I'd whine for someone else to have to pay for whatever help she needs. But that doesn't change the fact that she needs it.

"Just throw her in jail!" without any effort to find out what's really going on is the idiot's response (so of course yours) while you wash your hands of whatever hell you bring to the child, who then in a matter of years becomes just as big if not a bigger problem. Your 3 brain cells clanking together response to that also will be "Just throw her in jail!" but then, that's probably your goto for just about anything.

You can only help those who are willing to help themselves.

She may need help, but her accepting help is a different story.

This is true.

It's French for, "Please, barkeep, may I have another?"

I agree, she needs to be held accountable for OUI/child endangerment but have the option of getting rehab with psychological staff for the mental/emotional problems instead of jail time.

And this, kids, is a classic strawman.

i'm a conservative.

my response is she wasn't operating anything. she was passed out. There is probably some charges for child endangerment due to her being passed out drunk in custody of a 2 yr old, but that's it. the inproperly secured child seat charge is also fucked since again, the vehicle wasn't moving.
