gezzz i dont know how many times i have set up new hard drives, and this just goes to show sometimes its easy to get careless,

i was adding a new hard drive to my wife's pc, leaving the old one in as a slave so i could get the info off of it later,

well to make a long story short i ran fdisk to prep the new drive and did the wrong one :(

hehehe she is already in bed, but tomorrow ill be in the dog house :)

Whatever you do, don't write anything onto the drive or use it in anyway. Startup with a bootdisk or another drive and run this program:

ftp://ftp.powerquest.com/pub/utilities/ptedit.exe

Select the drive you accidently fdisked and then hit the set type button. Set the format to what it was before you destroyed the tables.
Hope it works, so you won't have to spend the night on the couch ;)

I mucked up my partition table not too long ago, but I was able to recover everything. I downloaded a demo of Norton Utilities and ran its Disk Doctor (I think that wsa the specific util). It worked great, even if I uninstalled NU shortly thereafter. :)

Yikes, I had a customer that wanted me to get all his files back once after he deleted all partitions. I pretty much told him he was screwed. the thing was that he had written to the drive since(made it bootable) and booted with the drive.

if you ever make such a mistake, it's best to NOT TOUCH THE DRIVE, and come here asking for help =)

I didn't realize that it was so "easy" to fix an fdisk'ed drive. Well, if I ever accidentally do that, now I can repair it.

Only if you are Smart enough to leave it alone after you muck up your partition table. FDISK doesn't delete the data it just destroys the partition table, so as long as you don't write any new data, you can get it back by just manually fixing the table (with ptedit).

If you write anything, your hooped.
