my camaro was sitting in my driveway for some time while i used the bus to commute to and from work... the radiator would leak like a beyotch any time i took the car out, so i didn't feel comfortable taking it more than 2 seconds away, in case. that and i was having various other problems (duh). well finally i fiddled around with some stuff and also replaced the radiator (whew only cost me about $100USD).. and it's running pretty good now. she was empty, so i put in $25 of "super" (probably only 91 octane). expectedly, this filled me from empty to about 3/4 tank full.

so then I drove for maybe 25-30 min (highway). then I drove maybe 15min back (highway), and then about 15min back again (home)... went to pick up gf (10 min away), went to movie (5 min away), came home (5 min away).... dropped off gf (10 min away) and now I'm at EMPTY. Was a little uncertain of how much fuel i had left... but considering i was even emptier before filling up and i made it to the gas station, i wasn't too worried.

but still.. that was $25! went up in flames. dang. still gotta fiddle with th car some more (mostly the air filter and plugging open hoses/vaccums), will probably help with the mileage a lot.

so yeah, can't wait till i get the '03 lancer for my daily home to work and back commuting..

cliff notes: 12:00pm - empty tank of gas. put in $25 of 'decent' gas.
1:10am - empty tank of gas :p maybe 100-something KMs driven max..

What year of camaro and is it a 350 or a 305? My 81 only got about 10 MPG which sucked. I now get at least 35 in my civic which makes a large difference.

35 in a civic? something must be wrong.. redlining it all day? :p

1985.. mine is only a 305. it has an edelbrock 'performer rpm' thing if that makes a diff. i've got the k&n but either my carb isn't the right one or something isn't right (not enough clearance and the carb sometimes hits against the air filter), on top of that the air filter needs a cleanin'. i'm sure i'm in the 10-15mpg range right now. but I did do 150km on less than a 1/4 tank once before, so I know I CAN get very decent mileage with this car. plus I had the diff replaced recently, with a different ratio thats supposed to yield slightly better highway mileage. heh

give it a rest, i walk as much as I need to or can. walking to work is not an option, and when i can't or dont' want to drive I take the bus which does involve walking, considering my location. i'm not one of those people that will drive two seconds down the street just because i'm too lazy to walk, but I do love my camaro. :) even if it makes my wallet cry sometimes

When our '90 Accord's O2 sensor was failing, we would go through an entire tank of gas in 4 days. Now that it's fixed, it takes us 3 weeks to finish the tank.

Wow 3 weeks to finish the tank, lucky!

I just put $10 worth in (half tank) and it was gone in two or three days... two I think.

Well the only time we REALLY use it is on the weekends... otherwise it's just me driving her to the train station (I work from home).

Definately check the carb, because unless it's one hell of a hotrod you should be getting more than about 4MPG

Also unless you added some different heads or pistons save your money and use Reg. unleaded, 87 octane. 91 is a waste

I'm getting the base, cheapest model. Why would I spend more when I'm trying to save money so I can fix up my camaro?

I... I've went about 150km on about a 1/4 tank before, so I don't think I get horrible mileage.. I just burned a hell of a lot yesterday since I was going 200, accelerating hard all over the place... I got what I deserve I guess. it's a 4 barrel, so when you push its using 4, when you dont it doesn't use all 4, thus conserving gas? or something.. i never really pushed it like i did yesterday. i don't think i ever really gave it more than half throttle .. never had to
