I must be bad luck for this stock or something, they looked to have such steady growth for so long, so I dumped some money into them on ameritrade, and they have since been in the crapper, down 18% in the month and a half or so that I've had them.

Anybod else got AMD?

Around a month ago the advice was to sell AMD and buy Intel which a certain few members scoffed at here.

Sorry about your losses so far though :( Amd will pull through

Looking at Intel, they haven't been doing any better, took a huge dive after new years and have stayed down.

I hope so, I'm not gonna panic and run, on the other hand I dont want to wait forever just to get back to even. I have money spread around to other places, but all in tech stocks (I stick to what I know), and it seems overall tech stocks have not been posting the same gains the Dow has over the past few months. Perhaps I need to get into other sectors.

The time to sell was last week when Intel demo'ed the Conroe at IDF.

Uhm, it was pretty obvious this was going to happen when Intel started touting its 65 and 45 nanometer capabilities. They are way ahead of AMD on this. AMD kicked Intel's ass at 90 nanometer, and their stock rose a lot. Now it's Intel's turn.

I bought it at $8. It's been great to me. I've taken some off the table over the years. No loss there. I am also an AMD supporter.

Better sell that POS. It's Intel's turn to blow them out of the water.

Intel will own AMD for the next 3 years.

You should look to the future, not the past. As in, you should read industry literature to figure out what is going to happen. The way you talk, it seems that you would be better off just investing in indexed funds.

Heh, maybe its karma, I've been an Intel/Windows guy for years, but I dont own either of those, but I have AMD and Apple.

I did make some nice money on Apple after thier Q4 earnings went through the roof due to ipod sales (sold them at thier all time high), but am now with them again and they seem to be losing steam.

I hear ya, but look at INTC, its been a dog since new years. I just cant bring myself to bet on it without a more tangible sign of Intel's outlook. They can have all the greatest technology on earth, but if only nerds like us are gonna buy it, thats not gonna boost thier stock, the tech sector as a whole just doesnt seem to be in a growing mode right now. If business growth spurs a lot of new computer sales, then ya, I can see Intel making some huge gains, but I dont see that within the next 6 months.

Bulls make money, bears makes money, hogs get slaughtered. - Jim Cramer

Bought at 18, sold at 38.76 for me. Still holding on to Google: bought at $209 - my long term I am hopping.

Actually bought AMD as a long term, then I applied for a job with them that I thought I was perfect for and then found out it went to a friend of a friend who lasted all of two months - sold off AMD when I heard that.

Well, that's the thing, Intel dived after reporting bad earnings in Jan and thats when people said to buy it...it was and still is a good pullback range to purchase this stock.

Oh I definetly look at all the research reports, Which is why I dont see a lot of new computer sales within the next 6 months. Intel dropping nanometers doesnt make the money, selling computers does.

that's what I'd like to know, it sure plunged so far this month :(

although, it still is worth noting that AMD is still worth about 1.5x more than intel, even with the 7% drop today

LMAO, Intel market cap $116 billion. AMD $16billion

AMD is down today on a downgrade citing a price war

Don't day trade if you can't afford to lose the money. Stocks ideally should be held long term for dividends. This way you can ride out these lows that all stocks see every quarter.
