I just got my car back from the shop after hitting a big buck. The total came out to $15000 to my Audi Q7. The great thing is that the insurance company is considering it an unavoidable collision and my rates aren't going up. Hit the deer straight on. Didn't have a chance to try anything. They said that if I had attempted to avoid the deer and hit a tree or something else then it would count against me. Something to think about should one run infront of you.

Just had my H3 hummer fixed after hitting a buck on the interstate its came out of nowhere and destroyed my front end.. The insurance guy didn't believe I hit a deer until I walked him over to the pile of rubble that was once a deer..the hummer destroyed it completely almost unrecognizable to anyone.. You would think the hummer with a front grill guard would have been pretty protected, but it cause over 17k worth of damage.

Damn on both posts. I've still been lucky so far. Hoping that when I do hit one it's in the van and not the car.

People who hit moose fare much worse.

damn.. did the airbags deploy?

As a matter of fact, No. I was going about 50 when it ran out. The body impacted the grill and I guess the legs weren't enough to of a force on the bumper to activate them. It did puncture the radiator and crush some stuff in front.
Luckily, I hardly felt any impact to driver.

Wow, I feel lucky now.

I hit a BIG buck going 40-45. It jumped out just as I was cresting a hill, at night, with an oncoming car's headlights slightly blinding me. I had barely enough time to jerk my steering wheel to the side and let off the gas - couldn't even get my foot on the brake before impact. Luckily I smacked it's flank with my headlight / fender, and the only damage was a cracked headlight (expected) and a few scratches on the fender. $800ish in repairs on my '08 Fusion (obviously the cars are in a completely different class, which attributes a lot to the price discrepancy). The fender looks brand new, and the headlight, well, it IS brand new. :p

If I hadn't swerved at all, it probably would have come through the windshield. We couldn't find a corpse, so it either ran away and died in the woods or survived. For about a month afterward, there was a car / deer accident almost every night as I was coming home along that stretch. It was BAD.

It was thrown about 50 feet, writhed a bit then lay still. But I had to drive about a mile ahead to get to a parking lot. When the trooper went back it was gone. It may have gotten up and stumbled into the woods but I doubt it would live for long. Or it is possible someone saw the accident and took the carcass.

The Q7 is pretty damn tough on the front end, thats nuts But lucky it did not deploy airbags oh, that would of been so much more expensive lol
