I just put it on and I like it BUT...

Honestly I don't know why they include the screen protector. It was not as bad with the iphone4 version but with this display it really makes it "sparkly" looking which is not good...

Luckily it pops right out. Don't forget to remove the adhesive as well. It looks a lot better without it!

The screen is recessed far enough AND if you drop it on something big enough to threaten the screen that little piece of plastic is going to do nothing to prevent the unthinkable from happening!

I did not have it on an hour and it I dropped it. Made an awful hollow noise too but not even a scratch on the case. It adds a lot of bulk but honestly the naked phone is way to slim to comfortably handle if you're active.

otter box is great if you drop or sit on your phone but it doesnt protect your phone 100%. i put my keys in my pocket with my old droidx phone (something i almost never do) and it got two black spots on the screen even though there was no cracking. so dont think just because you got otterbox your phone is 100% safe peeps

Well no case is 100% foolproof...

No case can compensate for lack of common sense either!

Accidents do happen. This case has a holster so no issue with keys. Keys should be on a ring clipped to a belt loop OR placed in a pocket in a purse or satchel for the guys.

As for the sitting issue I cannot imagine anyone putting a phone in a back pocket if their slacks are so equipped. A naked S3 is certainly thin but it would just be uncomfortable IMO.

dunno... otterbox cases are too fat. furthermore the silicone warps from heat. I guess it's nice and protective, but dual layer cases are often way too big.

There is no free ride here. You either have minimalist protection that's slim and take chances with a hard, long drop and otherwise keep the back of the phone looking new or have a more rugged solution that will keep the phone looking near new and working through a long day's work. TBH, I love the look and feel of holding these phones naked in hand but one drop is very risky and not worth it unfortunately!

A good compromise that looks good that still provides great drop protection is the Speck candy case. Been using that on the Note for about six months. On the Note it's VERY hard to put on and take off so if you need to pull the back off a lot that's annoying. On the GS3 not nearly as bad to manage. The sides near the cutouts for the ports etc. are fragile and can rip if you're not careful - especially on the Note as it's extremely hard to remove.

Getting back to the Defender - it's much easier to use the buttons than the Commuter series. If a belt clip isn't needed AND you pull off the "screen protector" sheet on the Defender the Commuter is plenty good as long as you don't mind the pressure it takes to activate the buttons. At least there's not going to be accidental button pushing going on in your pocket with that one...
