Otical Cable problem

Okay, I have an Onkyo 505 receiver and a Toshiba HD-A2 HD DVD player. I ordered a TOSLink cable for an optical audio connection, but I can't get it to fit. Did I get the wrong cable or am I just a moron?

Did you get the correct Toslink and not the "mini" connection one?
The end should look like a "D", there might be an adapter on it.

well shit, after looking at more pics of TOSlink on google, I discovered the cable had proective nipples over the ends....I thought the clear plastic was part of the cable

Isn't that an HDMI reciever? Why didn't you just hook it up with HDMI?

It might not decode but it should accept 5.1 PCM from the HD DVD player.

funny. I tried pulling the covers off of mine, but found that it wasn't very easy...so I then assumed it was part of the cable....hehe.
