Hope someone can shed some light on my issue.

I sometimes boot up my machine with Windows XP (sp 3 installed). I don't log in and one day about a week ago I went to shut down my computer and it shows me a message others are logged into my computer and do I want to continue the shut down... So I am thinking I have been hacked (have comcast for my service). So I put Ad-aware, Spybot, turn on Windows XP Firewall and installed Avast virus protection. Cleaned the entire system via these programs and yesterday the same thing happened when I went to shut down (never logged in myself) same message OTHERS are logged in.

Help me gang and let me know what I need to do to find out how this is happening, am I being hacked via some trojan programs that can't be detected.

Any knowledge is great appreciated.

Hi,

First, do you have a router with a hardware firewall? Before you enabled Windows Firewall, were you plugged directly into the cable modem without any firewall?

How many user accounts do you have on the system? Are they passworded?

Go into Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer and dig through to logs to see who or what has been logging into your PC.

Probably not being hacked. Someone would need to create a new account in order to get that message. More likely, something is scheduled to run some automated task with the wrong credentials or something.

Open Task Manager and on the tab Users it will show who else is logged in if it is a user account.

thanks all for the posts, I checked the log files and nothing suspicious. I will check the users under Task Manager.

Once again thanks for the info, this forums rocks when it comes to getting wisedom and not just knowledge :)

Peace.
