I just had some clear shower doors installed in my shower and it looks great . .except for the fact that the water forms water spots on the windows unless i squeegy it off every time after i shower. . . I was thinking of using RainX to treat the windows and repel water. . . has anyone ever tried this?

Haha no, I haven't, but it seems like it would work. RainX kicks ass.

F'N a man! I never thought about that. Our shower door gets owned because we have a lot of lime in our water so we get bad hard water stains.

Yeah, I've thought about doing this before. I'll probably try it in a spot at the bottom of one of the doors so I don't screw anything up too badly. I don't see why it wouldn't work.

I've never gotten that stuff to work right...it repels rain alright, but completely screws up the wipers resulting in a streaky, disgusting mess, that makes night driving impossible...

Fixed

If you want grease on your shower doors after 2 weeks, get Rain-X. If you want something to repel water, get Aquapel.

yeah, it makes my wipers get sticky and they start jumping as they go across the windshield. it's a two-edged blade. i still apply it.

edit: by blade i was using a figure of speech. not refering to the wiper blade. i guess i made a bad pun by mistake.

I love rainx - always apply it when I clean my car and then when it rains, I'm thankful I did, especially on the longer highway drives.

Uhhh. It works. I don't know what you guys are talking about. Maybe Aquapel works better, but RainX is GODLIKE when I use it on my car.

Streaks? WTF are you guys talking about. THe difference between RainX and no RainX is day and night. I usually go w/o wipers except on local roads where you're below 35.

Moreoever, my mom is like OCD or something and she's one of those people who will scrub showers every few days or so and complain about soap scum. As a result she's been using RainX on my shower door for years. I never knew that until I asked her one day. I always noticed that it would be hard to rinse off the shower doors and the water just beaded off, and so I figured there was nothing to rinse off because she would always ask me to keep my shower clean. Truth is, it keeps the door a lot cleaner that it would be if you DIDN'T have RainX.

Cold showers? Maybe cold water works better, but I guarantee you the water still beads up the same way with hot water. Try it. You would be surprised.

Now I'm speaking on behalf of CLEAR shower doors because thats what I have at home. Like a smooth piece (not privacy glass). So maybe RainX will work like sh!t on non-smooth glass, but maybe I'll experiment one day in my apartment which has privacy glass.

Oh yeah Rain-X works if you re-apply every two weeks. Aquapel is good for 3 months and no streaks or any crap like that.

BTW, Aquapel is a little different. It bonds to the glass, instead of using oil to repel water.

I've used Rain-X on shower doors, bathroom mirrors (prevents fog), car mirrors, welding helmets, goggles, etc etc...never had any problems. It is a pain to buff tho.

I tried Fog-X, but Rain-X seemed to work better.

I'll have to give this Aquapel stuff a try...

I've used Rain-X on shower doors. It keeps the glass cleaner longer but eventually the hard water spot wins so you so have to clean/reapply eventually - just not as often if you didn't have it.

I also shall check out Aquapel. Do any of the major autoparts stores carry it?

Heres the story. I worked at Delta Sonic (a car wash) and they applied Aquapel there. I tried looking at some stores for it but had very little luck. My PepBoys carries the same thing as Aquapel, except its under a different name brand. I believe its $7 for an application(windshield OR two side windows). But it does last for 3 months as it bonds to the glass.

On the Aquapel website, they state that the following stores carry their product:
PPG ProStars
CertifiedFirst Network
Bridgestone Firestone
Jiffy Lube
Pep Boys

I also found Aquapel in bulk on Ebay.

edit: spelling

I'm guesing if you have one of those marbled shower doors, then it would be tough to apply evenly and effectively. Also, Don't apply while showering/or at least inside the shower with the door closed....I once mixed up some 70% EtOH at the lab and brought it back to the apartment to clean the bathroom. Worked like a charm, of course...but I was stupid enough to spray while showering (I'm efficient like that)....almost passed out from Vodka-like fumes :D

LOL landlubbers. ;)

Spinning windows aren't just found in ships and lighthouses - fully enclosed CNC machinery will use them so the operator can watch without worrying about the cutting fluid spatter covering the observation glass.

So what is it? A motor spins a section of the windscreen rapidly so water droplets can not stick to it.

I have used rainx on shower doors and it works. I also heard that putting a light coat of WD-40 does the same thing.

Ok, so you know about batteries, lighting technology, industrial adhesives, spinning window thingies, and machining processes. It's been said before but, is there anything you don't know? :Q

You shouldn't be in the ATOT forum, you know. You're really skewing the IQ average here.:p You're like the one person in a class who gets a 100% on a test where the average was a 50%. "Oh, sorry, someone got a 100%, so I can't curve the tests."

Our CNC mill in the "beginners" machine lab doesn't even have cutting fluid. It mainly is used to cut wood and aluminum. They probably don't want to risk the good equipment on the students like myself who had never before touched any kind of milling machine. The pep talk is great, too. :)"Don't grab the tool holder like this when you press this button, or it'll suck your hand in. Don't do this, or it'll fly out and injure someone. Don't do this or you'll break the tool."
