First person shooter wise and that will really require a gig of memory? I am thinking about selling 512mb because having a gig is pointless for me. I don't like Doom 3 so whats the point in keeping expensive memory when its just gonna decrease in value and I could use that money for future upgrades.

...memory is not that expensive and will more memory helps everything, not just fps games.

Just keep the gig since you won't get that much selling one stick.

Start playing UT2k4..should keep you busy for a few months at least (has me addicted since its release).
And don't play the boring normal servers...i'll set you up with some insane mod servers :D

STALKER looks interesting, last thing I read about it anyway.

Quake 4 is a long way off. :(

I've had a gig of memory for probably 2 years now. I remember having chop issues with only 512mb ram back when I first played BF1942. I know BF:Vietnam causes it, so do the Unreal Tournament games, Far Cry, and most of the other FPS games I've played.

For me, the only time I'd build a system with 512mb or less is if it's for office type use. Maybe some DVD stuff as well. If it's a gaming rig, always a gig unless if there are budget issues.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R looks REALLY promising but I think it will hit the shelves in Q1'05.

Keep it. Have you played Far Cry yet? If not, go for it. Good memory holds it's value more so than other pieces of hardware. Most games coming out in the near future will use that gig of ram.

Ditto those comments for me as well.

Unless you are really hurting for money you should keep the entire gig of RAM. You're going to want it sooner or later and by selling it I am sure you will take a loss.

You mention HL2, If you intend to play that (and who doesn't) I'm sure it will come in handy.
I am seriously expecting HL2 to be in our hands within 5 weeks if not within the month .
