Other Laptops with TrackPoint mouse?

i'm really interested in a laptop with a trackpoint-type mouse (the mouse between the 'g' and 'h' keys). my budget is $1000 (maybe a couple dollars over) before tax. i've priced out the Thinkpad R60...it's right at the border of my budget with no warranty. i've heard horrible things about the Latitude D620 and the D820 may be too expensive.

any other alternatives? or any other laptops to consider for that matter (without the trackpoint mouse). good build, 14-15.4" screen, core duo or core 2 duo processor (not 533MHz bus), ram/hdd don't matter (i'll upgrade down the line).

thanks a lot AT

The D620 is an okay notebook actually, no worse than the D820.

$1000 for a business class notebook (which are the only ones that come with the trackpoint) just isn't terribly feasible. Unless you go to a Celeron M-based setup.

Look at HP for good value and quality. Lenovo N100 series is good also, with same support Thinkpads get.

i realize the D620 is a decent notebook and i would prefer it over the D820 anyway (because it's smaller) but i haven't seen a D620 screen in person and i have heard WAY too many complaints. unless i actually see the screen, i don't know if i'm up for the risk. i'm a college student so money doesn't come around too easily...i want it to be well spent.

btw, the D620 and Thinkpad R60 i was able to configure to around $1025. i'm not looking for any ram/hdd upgrades just because i'll be upgrading them later on (in a year or two).

i have a question about the HPs. can you actually configure them online? i keep going to the site and click on 'customize' but none of the hardware can be changed. am i doing something wrong? thanks for your help fbrdphreak.

kenyee, i'll look into it, thanks
