Everyone, even you, hates that joke.

No no no, I genuinely love it. I read it once every few months for a refresher. If I could memorize it and retell it I would. It's not just a funny joke, its a fantastic story.

Yep, I always fondly remember poor, charming Nate. Poor Nate. :(

Fuck those other forums.

It's required reading for ATOT. A rite of passage if you will, and it should be stickied.

I liked it. It was like a short story. Some people have the attention span of a gnat. I feel bad for those people.

I was expecting a paragraph and got like 30 pages. I got like 10 pages into it and it felt like I was lost at sea as to wtf I was doing.

It didn't really have a title or preface. I didn't scroll to the bottom and I was like "HOW MUCH LONGER COULD THIS POST POSSIBLY BE"

Where is the joke? Is the joke to make me read this? Will there be a punchline that ties all of this together? Thats not possible I've been reading for 10 pages. My mind exploded reading that joke.

That story's ending serves as a nice example of why translations of old texts don't always convey the full meaning - even just something like Shakespeare, or other Old English. Puns and wordplay don't translate well. (And then there's the whole issue of the typical useful lifespan of pop culture references, even prior to the Internet.)

Keep going, it's worth it in the end.
